The Cup has been subscribed for by St Bernard's AFC and Third Lanark AFC for annual competition between the clubs in commemoration of the famous former SFL clubs of the same name. Both of the old clubs were founded from Territorial Army origins, Thirds in 1872 and the Saints in 1878, hence the choice of name for the trophy. The first match was played on Saturday 30 July 2011 at Letham Park, Ferry Road, Edinburgh and resulted in a 3-2 win for Third Lanark. It is hoped a return game will be held around the same time next year in Glasgow possibly at Cathkin Park, the old home ground of Thirds, which still has a football pitch although a large part of the former stadium has naturally disappeared.
